From Pastor Anne

Hello CCPC Covenant Partners,

Thank you for your love of God and worship of Him; for your love of Jesus, the Living Word; and the scripture the written word. You understand the power of prayer. You are faith-filled, caring, resilient people.

·       Thanks also for engaging in our Summer of Prayer!

·       Together we are seeking God’s purpose for CCPC for the next 3 5 years.

·       Our Strategic Vision Team launched the pastor search process with the Leadership Summits we held in July!

·       We want you to know the process, too!

WHAT’S NEXT? TOWN HALL MEETINGS!

The Strategic Vision Team seeks your input. We are drafting a 3 - 5-year plan to submit to Session as a basis for their discussion and adoption of a plan. We want to hear from every covenant partner; each of you has wisdom to share.

·       What slice of God’s pie does He have for CCPC to fulfill?

·       How does He want us to reach our neighbors with the Gospel?

You are invited to participate in one of two Town Hall Meetings in August. Please come prepared to worship, discuss Qs in small groups - and enjoy pie!

Join us on August 8 (6 - 7:30 PM) or on August 12 (10 11:30 AM). Choose one. Please RSVP to Janine at  admin@calabash.church or call 579-7356 or register on  www.calabash.church so we’ll know which meeting you are attending. If you are unable to drive, please let us know and a deacon will arrange to come to you! Everyone’s input matters and will be considered by the SV Team.

Q’s? Please ask your Strategic Vision Team: Pastor Anne, moderator, Mary Ard, Clerk of Session, Renee December, acting elder, George Brandon, communicator.

PS from Nominating Team elder Sue Brown:  Following the Town Hall Meeting, the Nominating Committee will be asking for suggestions of nominees for the Pastor Search Ministry Team. We want all Covenant Partner's suggestions and will pray and consider all we receive. Please be in prayer for suggested nominees and our committee as we go through this procedure.  The letter asking for nominees will be distributed soon.

Have you ever wondered how to weave your faith into a conversation with non-believers, or how to share the gospel with a neighbor???  Matthew 4:19 tells us Jesus called out to Peter and Andrew who were casting a fishing net into the lake.  Jesus said,

" Come follow me and I will make you fishers of men." Jesus is calling each one of us here at CCPC to be fisher men and women and Christian Education has a tool to help. Last year, our CLP's crafted a tool to help us learn to fish as Jesus wanted.  They modeled their program after Andy Stanley's Go Fishprogram.

Christian Education would like to invite the ENTIRE Church to participate on Monday afternoons beginning Monday August 16th at 4PM.  We will meet each Monday at the same time (4:00-5:00 PM) for six weeks excluding Labor Day.  We will begin as a large group for 20-25 minutes of a video by Andy Stanley in the sanctuary making good use of our new large screens. We will then break up into smaller groups for 30 minutes of discussion crafted by our CLP's. Each session is designed to last only 60 minutes.

The CLP's shared their Each One Reach One Program with the Presbytery. The Presbytery of South Carolina was so impressed they have asked our CLP's to present the program at the October Presbytery meeting! The Presbytery would like for all Churches to have access to our program it if they would like.  Please call Carolyn Robison at 579-4738 or email at pbrobison@aol.com to let me know if you can attend. We want to make sure we have a study guide available for all who would like to join in our journey to becoming better fishermen.  If you need a ride to and from the class, we will arrange for transportation with another covenant partner. Let's make ourselves a Church who knows how to FISH. See you in the Sanctuary Monday August 16th for Calabash Covenant's own Each One Reach One program.

New Tuesday Morning Bible Study

On Tuesday, August 3, the Tuesday Morning Men’s Bible Study group will begin a new study series based on the book Ten Men Of The Bible: How God Used Imperfect People To Change The World by Max Lucado.  The ten men we will focus on in study are Noah, Job, Jacob,

Moses, David, Joseph, Matthew, Lazarus, Peter and Paul.  These were all flawed ordinary men. Their stories are marked by scandal, stumble and intrigue.  Yet they also had remarkable faith.  We will study how each of them found hope not in their own performance but in the arms of God.  We will see our lives are much the same as theirs and how God can use each of us just as he used each of them.

All men are invited and encouraged to attend.  You do not have to be a covenant partner.  We even hope you will invite a friend or neighbor.  We currently have around 20 men studying with us each week.  We hope to have you join us.

We meet for Bible study on Tuesdays from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the large Sunday School room. Many of the men also meet for breakfast and fellowship at 7:30 AM at Sunny Side Up restaurant in Calabash every Tuesday.  All are invited to join us for breakfast as well as Bible study.

If you are interested please contact Tom Pressel at 910.617-0282 or  tpressel@atmc.net so we can make sure we have study guides for all who plan to attend.

INVITATION TO PRAYER  Submitted by Gloria Wimmer

Scripture repeatedly tells us to devote ourselves to prayer (Col. 4:2). Devotion is a strong word. It requires that we set aside uninterrupted time for prayer; that we think seriously about what we’re asking; and we give God the time and attention He deserves to have a growing relationship with Him. When we put Him first, everything else falls into place!

Some of us may know right away that we fall short when it comes to devoting ourselves to prayer as a spiritual discipline.  We might even be among those who give God a few minutes a day for prayer, but that’s all. If that be the case, it would stand to reason that we would feel powerless in times of trials. In the midst of the uncertainty, chaos, and violence in our country, surely we know we can’t change these things in our own strength.  We need strength greater than ours!

As Ephesians 6: 10-13 says, we need the strength of the Lord. We need prayer!

Even Jesus stole away for prayer!  It’s time we agree with Jesus that apart from God, we can do nothing. Prayer, more than any other activity, demonstrates our dependence on the Lord.

Pastor Anne has asked each of us to join in a summer of prayer asking God to show us what the church’s “slice of the pie” is in our community and what CCPC’s next flourishing step should be so that we can impact our world for Jesus. As the Lord responds to our prayers, we are building our relationship with Him, and we are building a strong foundation for calling our next Senior Pastor.

Lord, please pour out a spirit of prayer upon us. Give us a deep desire to bring prayer into every aspect of our lives. Teach us to pray! Amen

If you are in need of prayer or pastoral care please call the church office at 579-7356 or email prayer@calabash.church. If you have not visited our prayer room recently, please take a look at the reading materials on the shelf and help yourself to any that may be useful to you or someone you know.

Grace and peace, Gloria and Annelle

TECHNOLOGY and OUR LIFE TOGETHER

We do want to love God with all our “heart, mind and soul.” To help us express that love to God in worship, in 2020 the Session voted to order a projector and screens to enhance our in- person worship. After all, we were getting that live-streaming thing down pat! We waited… and waited… for COVID-19 California restrictions to be lifted… in July they were received and installed!

Our Tech Team is working diligently to post announcements and our worship elements on the screens in an effective manner.  Your comments are helpful and provide direction as we tackle this work in progress! Please thank the Sunday Tech Crew whenever you see them – on the beach or in the Sanctuary!!

Updated web site!  State Farm says: “Life Comes at You Fast!” They’re right, when it comes to technology! The great thing about technology is the way its use keeps us connected. Our website has been updated to help us reach our local community with the Gospel.  Newcomers can see what to expect when worshipping here and get a sense of our warm, loving DNA.

Our website reaches our church community with information! Check it out - www.calabash.church- please pray it reaches newcomers for Christ. Surely we are “A Place to Call Home.” Please thank the Tech Team for their work on the website! Send Q’s Tom Pressel’s way; he’s the webmaster.
